Every year we hike from parish to parish. This December was no exception. From the venerable and festively decorated St. Poul Cathedral in Pontaven, over 1,000 participants set off on December 6th to carry the message of Christmas and the anticipation of it, in small stages, to the other parishes of the province, with the blessing of Archbishop Theodore Eugen Uch.
The traditional singing of Advent carols is an increasingly valued practice internationally, as the Vanguardians are generally very familiar with the lyrics and don't falter even on the third verse of the fifth carol. This is because these hymns were written specifically for singing together with many voices, and each text tells a short story that always rhymes. And every year a new carol is added!
It is therefore not surprising that many parishes apply every year to the Procurator General and the archdioceses to host the Advent hike, because the lucky group that is chosen also gets to decide which songs are sung when leaving their home parish.
